چکیده

The relatively long-lived positron emitters Cu (t1/2 = 12.7 h), Br (t1/2 = 16.2 h) and I (t1/2 = 4.18 d) are finding increasing applications in positron emission tomography (PET). For precise determination of their positron emission intensities, each radionuclide was prepared via a charged particle induced reaction in a “no-carrier-added” form and with high radionuclidic purity. It was then subjected to γ -ray and X-ray spectroscopy as well as to anticoincidence beta and γγ -coincidence counting. The positron emission intensities measured were: Cu (17.8±0.4)%, Br (58.2±1.9)% and I (22.0±0.5)%. The intensity of the weak 1346 keV γ -ray emitted in the decay of Cu was determined as (0.54±0.03)%. Some implications of the precisely determined nuclear data are discussed.

Decay data and production yields of some non-standard positron emitters used in PET.

The increasing significance of non-standard positron emission tomography (PET) nuclides in medicine is briefly outlined. The decay data of those radionuclides are generally well known, except for the positron emission intensity (Ibeta+) in a few cases. The recent precise measurements on the Ibeta+ values for (64)Cu, (76)Br, (120)I and (124)I are described. Some general aspects of cyclotron prod...

Image quality with non-standard nuclides in PET.

Non-standard positron emission tomography (PET) nuclides bring with them the prospect of new chemistry leading the way to novel approaches for targeted imaging and therapy. In particular, the kinetic energy of the positron of some of these nuclides is high (as much as 4 MeV) and, thus, a highly specific PET probe can be very lethal to cancerous cells. However, the high positron energy will degr...

Calculation of Positron Distribution in the Presence of a Uniform Magnetic Field for the Improvement of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Imaging Using GEANT4 Toolkit

Introduction Range and diffusion of positron-emitting radiopharmaceuticals are important parameters for image resolution in positron emission tomography (PET). In this study, GEANT4 toolkit was applied to study positron diffusion in soft tissues with and without a magnetic field for six commonly used isotopes in PET imaging including 11C, 13N, 15O, 18F, 68Ga, and 82Rb. Materials and Methods GEA...

Three-dimensional maximum a posteriori (MAP) imaging with radiopharmaceuticals labeled with three Cu radionuclides.

BACKGROUND One of the limiting factors in achieving the best spatial resolution in positron emission tomography (PET), especially in small-animal PET, is the positron range associated with the decay of nuclides, and usual PET image reconstruction algorithms do not provide a correction for the positron range. This work presents initial results obtained with the maximum a posteriori (MAP) algorit...

Intrinsically Radioactive [64Cu]CuInS/ZnS Quantum Dots for PET and Optical Imaging: Improved Radiochemical Stability and Controllable Cerenkov Luminescence

Functionalized quantum dots (QDs) have been widely explored for multimodality bioimaging and proven to be versatile agents. Attaching positron-emitting radioisotopes onto QDs not only endows their positron emission tomography (PET) functionality, but also results in self-illuminating QDs, with no need for an external light source, by Cerenkov resonance energy transfer (CRET). Traditional chelat...
